In 2020, my wife and I were meant to travel to Tokyo to see our daughter graduate from university. COVID-19 began to shut the world down and the graduation ceremony was cancelled. At the last minute we headed to Tasmania instead, as domestic travel was still open. Within two days the state borders began to close. We drove through the wilderness, our anxiety building as the seismic shift to the world started unfolding. We made it to Cradle Mountain – a long-held dream. On a clear and calm morning, we found a refuge from the outside world in the ancient majesty of the mountain, reflected in Dove Lake.
